Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine – Junior guard Andrew Madlinger (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) knocked down six three-pointers en route to a game-high 28 points to lead the Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a lopsided 82-45 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium in Brunswick, Maine.
With the win, Bowdoin evens out its record to 2-2. Southern Maine drops its second straight game to fall to 3-2.
Madlinger was an outstanding 11-for-21 from the field and 6-for-13 from three-point range to lead three Polar Bear players in double figures. Sophomore guard Keegan Pieri (Camden, Maine/Camden Hills) added 16 points, a game-high nine rebounds and four assists, while freshman guard Lucas Hausman (Westport, Conn./Hopkins Grammar) tossed in 11 points off of the bench with a perfect 5-for-5 mark from the field.
Junior guard Brandon Tomah (Princeton, Maine/Calais) led the Huskies with 14 points on a 5-for-12 mark from the floor including four three-pointers. Junior forward James Odneal (Pontiac, Mich./Bottineau) added nine points and five rebounds and senior forward Sean Bergeron (Kennebunk, Maine) chipped in with eight points off of the bench.
Madlinger scored 18 of his game-high 28 points in the opening half to lead the Polar Bears to a modest 34-26 lead at the half. Bowdoin shot a solid 41.2 percent (14-for-34) in the opening stanza and held USM to 10-for-29 effort from the field.
In the second half, Bowdoin pulled away outscoring the Huskies 48-19 in the final 20 minutes of action. The Polar Bears shot an outstanding 51.4 percent (18-for-35) from the field, led by Hausman who scored all 11 of his points in the second half. Defensively, Bowdoin held USM to just five second half field goals on 5-for-24 shooting.
Southern Maine hosts Eastern Connecticut on Saturday (3:00 p.m.) in its Little East Conference doubleheader. Bowdoin hosts Maine Maritime on Saturday (4:00 p.m.) in a non-conference game.
