Box Score GORHAM, Maine -- Two members of the University of Southern Maine baseball team, senior Mike Eaton (Sabattus, Maine/Oak Hill) and freshman Forrest Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine), today were named recipients of weekly Little East Conference accolades. In its first weekly report of the 2011 season, the LEC office announced that Eaton was picked as the Player of Week while Chadwick received the Rookie of the Week honors.
In Southern Maine's first eight games, Eaton batted a team-high .469 (15-for-32) with six extra base hits - 2 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs - and 14 RBI. Eaton hit safely in six of his eight games, while driving in the lone run for the Huskies in the 1-0 win over Trinity (Conn.). He went 6-for-6 with five RBI in Southern Maine's 11-2 win over Farmingdale (NY) State College, making him the first Huskies player to have six hits in a game since April 2000.
Chadwick hit .378 (14-for-37) with 14 runs scored, seven doubles, one triple, one home run and nine RBI to help Southern Maine post a 5-3 mark. The rookie third baseman hit safely in six of his first eight games, including a five-hit, five-RBI game against Mt. St. Vincent. Chadwick had the Huskies only hit, and scored the lone run, in a 1-0 victory over Trinity (Conn.).
Southern Maine, 5-4 overall, is in the middle of its 10-game Florida trip. After an off day on Tuesday, USM will play M.I.T. on Wednesday (9:00 a.m.) at Chain-O-Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla.
