GORHAM, Maine  –  Sophomore Mary Moran (Windham, Maine/Portland) earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at first singles to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to an 8-1 win over the Rhode Island College Anchormen in a Little East Conference women's tennis match Tuesday afternoon at the Gorham High School Tennis Courts in Gorham, Maine.

         With the win, Southern Maine improves to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in the Little East Conference.  The loss drops Rhode Island College's record to 1-14 overall and 1-6 in the Little East.

         Moran defeated RIC freshman Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, Conn./Sheehan) at the top of the line-up as the Huskies earned five out of the six singles points en route to the win.   Sophomore Emily Boutin (Old Town, Maine) had a 6-2, 6-0 win at second singles over RIC senior Gabriela Batek (Greenville, R.I./Smithfield). 

         The Huskies led the Anchormen 3-0 after the doubles points were played.  Moran and junior Tegan Talbot (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) earned an 8-2 win at first doubles defeating Brown and Batek. 

         Boutin and junior Ali Hartley (Boothbay Harbor, Maine/Boothbay) defeated the RIC tandem of junior Doris Belanger (West Warwick, RI) and freshman Gianna Vallante (Coventry, RI) 8-6 at second doubles, while sophomore Leah Churchill (Cumberland Foreside, Maine/Greely) and freshman Molly Morrill (Litchfield, Maine/Oak Hill) earned a decisive 8-1 win at third doubles.

         Southern Maine hosts Worcester State on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) in its final regular-season Little East Conference match.  Rhode Island College hosts Emerson College on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.).
