Salem State Sinks Southern Maine 7-2

            SALEM, Mass. -- The Salem State University Vikings won two out of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches en route to a 7-2 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference women's tennis match Tuesday afternoon at the Central Campus Tennis Courts.

            With the win, Salem State remains undefeated and improves its record to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Little East.  Suffering its third loss in its last three matches, Southern Maine dips to 2-4 overall and is winless in the conference at 0-4.

            Salem State juniors Lauren Turenne (Reading, Mass.) and Carly Muniz (Gloucester, Mass.) defeated senior Erica Robertson (St. Albans, Vt.) and freshman Sarah Moody (Scarborough, Maine) 8-0, while junior Patty Quartararo (Lexington, Mass.) and sophomore Jessica Spinale (Saugus, Mass.) beat freshmen Emily Boutin (Old Town, Maine) and Kim Hilchey (Warren, Maine) 8-5.

            Junior Katelyn Ouellette (Lewiston, Maine) and sophomore Tegan Talbot (Topsham, Maine) salvaged a point for Southern Maine as they defeated sophomores Michelle McEwen (Billerica, Mass.) and Anna Yaskell 8-5 (Stockholm, Sweden) at first doubles.

            Turenne was a double winner for Salem State as she defeated Ouellette, 7-6, 6-3 at the top of the in singles play order.  McEwen and Muniz helped put the match out of reach as each player won in straight sets in second and third singles.  McEwen topped Moody 7-5, 6-1, and Muniz coasted to a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Talbot.

            Boutin defeated Yaskell, 6-1, 7-6, at fourth singles for the lone singles point won by the Huskies.

            Southern Maine hosts Rhode Island College on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).  Salem State travels to Worcester State University on Thursday (1:00 p.m.) for a make-up match.
