GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine Huskies women's tennis team turned in a dominant performance to open their 2010 season eight of nine points en route to an 8-1 victory over the Thomas College Terriers Wednesday afternoon at the Gorham High School Tennis Courts.  The match was the season-opening match for both squads.

Freshman Rachel Miller (Portland, Maine/Deering) led the way for Southern Maine in singles action claiming an 8-0 victory at the top of the singles lineup.  Miller downed the Terriers' number one player, sophomore Kristen McLean (North Anson, Maine) as USM took five of six singles points.

The Huskies were equally as dominant in doubles action sweeping all three points.  Competing at third doubles, senior captain Erica Robertson (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) and freshman Sarah Moody (Scarborough, Maine) earned one of three 8-0 victories for the Huskies.

Southern Maine returns to action on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) at Plymouth State University for a Little East Conference match.  Thomas College is next in action on September 11 (2:00 p.m.) at home against Johnson State College.
