GORHAM, Maine -- The Salem State University Vikings score twice in each half en route to a 4-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's soccer match Tuesday afternoon at the USM Soccer Field.

The victory snapped a two-game losing skid for the Vikings, and improved their record to 7-5-3 overall.  The Huskies dropped their third straight match to slide to 4-11-2.

The Vikings scored their first two goals within a span of 4:27 midway through the opening half to take command.  Junior Rafael Santos (East Boston, Mass./Boston Latin) converted a setup from senior David Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Mannheim Township) at 26:01 to put the visitors up 1-0.  Rookie Jovan Sempa (Woburn, Mass.) doubled the margin at 30:28 off assists from Miller and sophomore Matt Figueiredo (Wilmington, Mass.).

Sophomore Lamin Sawo (Saugus, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season in the 71st minute on a solo run down the right side after a USM turnover at midfield.  Figueiredo closed out the scoring in the 79th minute slotting home a pass from sophomore Josh DaSilva (Lowell, Mass.).  Sophomore Carlos Escobar (Malden, Mass.) also was credited with an assist.

Salem State goalkeepers, sophomore Scott Hall (Waltham, Mass.) and senior Luis Marques (Fall River, Mass.), split the time in goal and made two saves apiece.  USM senior David Kreps (Agawam, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson) and sophomore Jeremy Turner (Portland, Maine/Deering) each played a half in goal.  Kreps had two saves in the opening half while Turner stopped seven shots in the second stanza.

The Vikings enjoyed a 21-7 advantage in shots, including a 13-3 edge in the second half.  The Vikings had the only two corner kicks in the match.

Southern Maine closes the regular season this Saturday (1:00 p.m.) traveling to Keene State College for a Little East Conference match.  Salem State finishes the regular season this Friday night (7:00 p.m.) playing at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
