Colby-Sawyer Edges Southern Maine 5-4

GORHAM, Maine -- Senior Carolyn Drake (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) earned a hard-fought, 6-3, 7-5 win at fourth singles to help the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers post a narrow, 5-4 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies Sunday afternoon in a non-conference women's tennis match in Gorham, Maine.

With the win, the Chargers improve to 9-4 overall and halt a three-match slide.  The loss snaps a four-match winning streak for the Huskies, and drops their record to 6-5.

Drake's win over USM sophomore Tegan Talbot (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) ensured the Charger victory.  The Chargers led the Huskies, 2-1, after the doubles points were played, and the teams split the six singles points.

Southern Maine junior Katelyn Ouellette (Lewiston, Maine) earned a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) win at second singles, while freshman Emily Boutin (Old Towne, Maine) and senior Erica Robertson (St. Albans. Vt./Bellows Free Academy) each scored straight set victories at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

Southern Maine hosts Colby College on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.) in a non-conference match.  Colby-Sawyer faces Endicott College on Tuesday (2:00 p.m.) in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship.
