Former University of Southern Maine Huskies tennis player Eric Haase was named the head coach of the Huskies’ men’s and women’s tennis teams for the Spring 2017 season.

Haase led the men's team to LEC Tournament appearances in 2021, 2022, and 2025. He has coached three players to All-LEC honors including Kyle Curry, the 2017 Little East Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year. In addition to the Player of the Year award and a First Team All-LEC section Curry earned First Team All-LEC honors as part of a doubles pairing with and Samuel Holland. Holland himself earned Second Team honors for singles play. Senior Jaden Parker became the latest Husky to earn All-LEC honors with a Second Team honor for singles in 2025.

The Huskies' women's team reached the LEC Tournament in 2018 under the director of Haase. In 2023, Abby Emerson was named Second Team All-LEC to becme the first Husky to earn all-confernece honors since 2013. 

“I'm excited and very pleased to have one of our former student-athletes return to the fold as a member of our coaching staff.  Eric was a top player for the Huskies in the early 1990s and was also an outstanding student-athlete,” noted USM Director of Athletics Al Bean.   “He will bring a strong competitive spirit to the courts and a long history as a teaching professional in Maine and many other states on the east coast.  Eric is a Certified Professional Tennis Instructor and is looking forward to using his skills to bring his alma mater to the top of the ladder in both men and women's tennis.  I'm pleased to welcome Eric home to USM.”

A 1994 cum laude graduate of the University of Southern Maine with a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance, Haase was a three-time recipient of the Athletic Department’s William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete distinction.  A member of the Huskies’ tennis team from 1991-1994, Haase was a Little East Conference first team doubles champion in 1991 along with teammate Dave McNaughton.

A Senior Credit Analyst at WEX Inc., Haase is also a Certified Professional Tennis Instructor with the United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR) and the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA).  Haase has held various instructor and professional positions at tennis clubs throughout the State of Maine.
