Matt Pinchevsky

Matt Pinchevsky, a veteran hockey coach with strong connections to the state of Maine, was named the head coach of the University of Southern Maine men's ice hockey team in August of 2023.

Pinchevsky led the Huskies to the program's first 10-win season in over a decade in 2023-24 and guided the team to the NEHC tournament. The No. 7 seed Huskies upset No. 2 seed Norwich 3-1 for the program's first-ever road win at Norwich. The team finished the season with a record of 10-13-3 and had wins against three ranked opponents. Matt Sullivan was named to the NEHC All-Rookie Team following the season.

Six former Huskies that played under Pinchevsky have gone on to play professionally. Three defensemen, Jackson Legro, Nick Nault and Cole Ouellette, suited up in the FPHL after completing their collegiate careers in 2025. Former Husky defenseman Nolan McElhaney, who played for USM during Pinchevsky's first season in 2023-24, won a SPHL championship with the Evansville Thunderbolts in 2025.

Pinchevsky joined the Huskies after spending four years with the Maine Nordiques organization in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) where he served as Associate Head Coach and Director of Player Development for the Nordiques from their 2019 inception until partway through the 2021-2022 season when he pivoted into the head coach role. During the 2022-2023 season he guided the Nordiques to 33 regular season wins and an exhibition win against the USA U17 National Team (USNTDP).  Pinchevsky led his team to clinching a playoff spot, which carried the team's momentum all the way to the NAHL Eastern Division finals.Â
