GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's golf team will be looking to wrap up an outstanding fall season with their third consecutive Little East Conference championship. The two-day event begins on Tuesday at 12:30 pm at Mohegan Sun Golf Club in Baltic, Connecticut with Eastern Connecticut State University serving as the host school. As last year's champions, the Huskies will tee off in the second group of teams along with last year's second and third place teams, Eastern Connecticut and Keene State.
Junior
Will Farschon (Brunswick, Maine) has been one of the top performers in the conference this season with three LEC Player of Week awards to his credit. Farschon, who is in his first season with Huskies after transferring from Southern Maine Community College, has placed first or tied for first at three events so far this year, including earning co-medalist honors at the Husky Classic on Sunday, October 4. In total, Farschon has recorded top-five finishes in six events.
Another standout newcomer for the Huskies is freshman
SJ Welch (Newport, Maine/Nokomis Regional). Welch has earned the LEC Rookie of the Week award twice this season. He has recorded four top-five finishes on the season including a second-place performance at the Castleton Invitational.
The Huskies will have veterans
Alex Grant (St. Albans, Maine/Nokomis Regional) and
Alex Fournier (Cony, Maine/Augusta). Both players have been part of the past two LEC Championship lineups, and each have earned Second Team All-Conference honors at last year's championship. Fournier placed seventh with a score of 168 (+26) and Grant tied for eighth with a two-round score of 170 (+28). Each player has three top-10 finishes this season.
The Southern Maine lineup also features junior
Owen Moore (Pittsfield, Maine/Maine Central Institute), a 2024 First Team All-LEC performer after placing third with a score of 144 (+2). Moore, a team captain along with Grant, placed sixth at the Huskies' most recent event with a score of 73 (+1). Grant, Fournier and Moore have also been in the lineup for the Huskies at NCAA Championship in each of the past two seasons.
The winning team will earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2027 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship in May. The championship is being held at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va. from May 18-21.
