RUTLAND, Vt. – One day after setting a new program record for the lowest single round score, the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's golf team set another record with the lowest two-round score in program history with a 580 (+20) to win the Castleton Invitational. The Huskies shot a 303 (+23) in today's round to add to yesterday's program record round of 277 (-3). The Huskies had four golfers place in the top-five led by a second-place performance by freshman SJ Welch (Newport, Maine/Nokomis Regional) with a two-round score of 143 (+3). Clarkson University's Luke Weisiger was the event's medalist with a score of 139 (-1).
 
Junior Alex Grant (St. Albans, Maine/Nokomis Regional) tied for third with a 145 (+5) after shooting a 78 (+8) in today's round. Junior Jaden Poirier (White River Junction, Vt./Hartford) and junior Will Farschon (Brunswick, Maine) tied for fifth with each player shooting a 147 (+7). Farschon had the best round on the team today with a 74 (+4). Senior Quinn Dillon (Gorham, Maine) tied for 19th with a two-round score of 158 (+18). He shot a 76 (+6) today to cut six strokes off of first round score.
 
The Huskies defeated Clarkson University by four strokes to earn their second event title of the season. The previous record of 583 (+23) was set last season at the Eastern Connecticut State University Warrior Invitational at Mohegan Sun Golf Club in Baltic, Conn.
 
Elsewhere, the Huskies B team stayed in Maine to compete at Colby College's Sid Farr Invitational. The Huskies shot 304 (+24) as a team to place third behind Colby's 295 (+15) and Husson's 301 (+21). Sophomore Ben Aucoin tied for third with a 72 (+2). Aucoin had a hole-in-one on the second hole, a 134-yard, par-3.
 
Junior Alex Fournier (Augusta, Maine/Cony) placed eight with a score of 76 (+6). Freshman Nick Harmon (Scarborough, Maine) tied for ninth with a 77 (+7). He had an eagle on the 438-yard, par-5 third hole and also had a birdie on the eighth hole. Sophomore Keenan Buteau (Scarborough, Maine) tied for 19th after shooting a 79 (+9). Sophomore Joey Samson (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) shot an 84 (+14) to tie for 34th.
