GORHAM, Maine – Tatum Humphries converted a penalty stroke with a adeptly placed shot to the lower right side of the cage to lift the No. 24 University of Lynchburg Hornets to a 3-2 double overtime win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Sunday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynchburg took a 1-0 lead midway through the opening quarter when Lauren Mark knocked in her first goal of the 2026 season. The Hornets carried their 1-0 lead through the end of the first half outshooting the Huskies 13-1 in the first two quarters.
- The Hornets leading goal-scorer Sydney Cappallo doubled her team's advantage in the 36th minute on an assist from Sofia Boon.
- Lynchburg remained ahead 2-0 through the third and looked to be on its way to a 2-0 regulation victory before the Huskies struck for a two goals within 90 seconds to tie the game up and send it to overtime.
- Sophomore Eliza Rogers (Waterboro, Maine/Massabesic) struck first for the Huskies converting an outstanding pass in from sophomore Mackenzie Hall (Westbrook, Maine) in the 51st minute.
- Sophomore Izzy Folsom (Winthrop, Maine) tied the game up just 62 seconds later with an unassisted goal for her first score as a Husy in the 52nd minute.
- In the first overtime period, Southern Maine and Lynchburg each created several chances to end the game. Romasco made five saves in the first overtime period. Lynchburg controlled play in the second overtime, but the Huskies' defense held strong before the Hornets were awarded a penalty stroke with under three left in the period.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Both teams played to overtime in their game prior to today's contest. The Hornets dropped a 2-1 overtime loss at No. 10 Bates on Saturday, while the Huskies earned a 2-1 double overtime win over Husson University on Friday.
- Foster has 22 career defensive saves in three seasons with the Huskies. Elie has six career defense saves.
