Huskies Draw 0-0 on the Road at UMass Dartmouth in LEC Opener

GORHAM, Maine  - The University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's soccer team battled its way to a 0-0 draw with the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs to open the Little East Conference portion of its schedule.  The Huskies have finished in a tie in three of its four games to start the 2026 season.

Today's game is the 37th meeting between the University of Southern Maine and UMass Dartmouth.  The Corsairs lead the overall series 22-9-6.  This is the third consecutive meeting the Huskies and Corsairs have finished regulation in a tie.  In 2024 the result was 0-0, and in 2025 it was 1-1 in Gorham.
 
How It Happened:
  • Southern Maine outshot the Corsairs 10-6 overall (5-2 on goal) and had a 5-2 advantage in corners but could not find the back of the net.
  • In a defensive battle, the Huskies had a chance for the go-ahead goal in the 51st minute when Southern Maine was awarded a penalty kick, but Corsair goalkeeper Edward Corliss made one of his four stops in the game to keep the scoreboard empty. 
  • Senior goalkeeper Gabe Wagner (Freeport, Maine) earned his second shutout of the season making two saves for the Huskies. Both of Wagner's stops came in the opening 15 minutes of the game as USM's defense limited the Corsair opportunites the rest of the way.

  • The Huskies' result is their third scoreless draw of the 2026 season.  The Huskies' lone goal game in a 3-1 loss to Coast Guard.

Southern Maine faces Bowdoin College on Tuesday, September 15 (7:00 pm) in its next contest in Brunswick.  The Huskies then take on UMaine Fort Kent on Saturday, September 19 (4:00 pm) and UMaine Presque Isle on Sunday (3:00 pm) all on the road.
