HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Despite outshooting the Hawks 18-4 in the first half, and holding an 8-0 edge in penalty corners, the Huskies trailed the Hawks 1-0 at the mid-point of the game.
  • Hartford's Eva Nasse broke through for the first goal of the game and the first goal of the Hawks' 2026 season in the 24th minute. Nasse collected her own rebounded shot to give Hartford the advantage which was carried through the half.
  • Peppering the Hawks' defense with 12 shots in the third quarter, Southern Maine's offense was stonewalled by a strong performance from Hartford goalkeeper Leah Miller who finished the game with 21 saves.  The Huskies final broke through for the equalizer with just 27 seconds left in the third.  Niles redirected in a pass across the goal from sophomore Mackenzie Hall (Westbrook, Maine).
  • Senior Julie Elie (Dayton, Maine/Thornton Academy) scored the second goal of her career to put the Huskies up 2-1 and earn the game-winner.  Coming up from the Huskies' defense to insert the ball on one of USM's three fourth-quarter penalty corners, Eelie received a pass back from Niles and slotted home the goal in the 48th minute.
  • Southern Maine closed the door on the game in the 57th minute when sophomore Allie Flagg (Brewer, Maine) scored the first goal of her intercollegiate career for the 3-1 final.
