SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior
Christian Burke (York, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's track & field team ended the first day of the Division III New England Championships with the first-place position in the decathlon with 3372 points. Burke placed first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.20 seconds and in the high jump with a mark of 1.91m on the first day of competition. He also placed second in the long jump with a mark of 6.49m. The Huskies ended the first day in 21st place with 3.5 points.

Senior
Michael Cyr (Caribou, Maine) and freshman
Dylan Courtney (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) accounted for the Huskies' points on day one. Cyr placed seventh in the 10000 meters with a personal-best time of 32:43.65 to earn two points in the team standings. Courtney earned 1.5 points by tying for seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 4.55m.

Michael D'Amico (Belgrade Lakes, Maine/Messalonskee) currently sits in sixth in the decathlon standings with 3140 points. His top event of the day was the high jump where he placed second with a mark of 1.85m. He also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.47 second and in the 400 meters with a time of 53.38 seconds.

Freshman
Tyler Bryant (South Portland, Maine) also competed on day one for the Huskies. Bryant placed 11th in the javelin with a throw of 49.65m.
