GORHAM, Maine – Junior
Carson Black (Porter, Maine/Sacopee Valley) of the No. 28 University of Southern Maine Huskies' baseball team has been named the Maine College Baseball & Softball Association (MCBSA) Pitcher of the Week. Earning his first MCBSA honor of the 2026 season, Black is one of four Huskies to be recognized by the organization.
Black earned the Huskies 7-5 win over UMass Boston in Little East Conference action, firing a season-high seven innings. Black had a season-high six strikeouts in the win, allowing three earned runs on six hits and two walks. Black is 6-0 on the season (4-0 in LEC action). Black also pitched a relief inning in USM's 10-2 win over MIT, getting a pair of strikeouts in the top of the eighth.
Making 10 appearances with six starts, Black is 6-0 with a 3.23 earned run average and a 1.38 WHIP. Black has fired 39.0 innings (second on the team) and had 31 strikeouts. He has Little East Conference wins over UMass Dartmouth (3/21/2026), Rhode Island College (3/29/2026), WestConn (4/4/2026), UMass Boston (4/14/2026) and Plymouth State (4/21/2026).
Southern Maine (22-6, 10-1 Little East) is at Saint Joseph's College today at 3:00 pm in non-conference action. The Huskies then host No. 3 Salve Regina on Thursday (4:00 pm) at Flaherty Field. Southern Maine is back in Little East Conference action hosting VTSU-Castleton on Saturday (12:00 pm) for a doubleheader.
