How It Happened: Game One
- After a scoreless two and a half innings, Eastern Connecticut took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Kaley Laird connected on a two-out single through the right side to give the Warriors a base-runner, and Maddy Bowen connected on a two-run home run to left.
- Southern Maine had base-runners in the fourth with a pair of singles from senior Mackenzie Renner (Alton Bay, NH) and Kristina Yebba (Danvers, Mass), and one in the fifth on a single from Moore but was unable to push a run across each time.
- Sophomore Mia Coots (Newport, Maine/Nokomis) kept it a 2-0 game heading into the top of the sixth, working around a lead-off single in the fourth, and retiring the side in order in the fifth.
- Southern Maine pulled even in the sixth as junior Brianna Grenier (Cumberland, RI) singled through the left side with one out to start the rally. Senior Ella Bezanson (Amesbury, Mass.) connected on a triple to the gap in left to make it a 2-1 game before Yebba tied it up with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Yebba for a 2-2 game.
- Eastern Connecticut was able to snag the go-ahead run in the sixth. Bowen led off the inning with a single and moved into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt and a ground out before scoring on a Huskies' outfield fielding error to push ahead 3-2.
- In the top of the seventh, Moore had a one-out single and moved to second on a ground out, but the Huskies were unable to generate a run.
Game Two
- Trailing 1-0 after the Warriors scored an unearned run on a stolen base from Laird, the Huskies took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third. Moore singled with one out and moved up to second on a single from freshman Emily Wheeler (Old Town, Maine). With two runners on, senior Olivia Levasseur (Amesbury, Mass.) hit a double to the gap in left for two RBI. Levasseur's double marked her second of the season for the short stop.
- Holding its 2-1 run in the top of the fourth, Southern Maine added two more runs to jump ahead 4-1. The Huskies used timely two-out hitting to score both of their runs. After drawing a one-out walk and moving to second on a ground out, Renner came around to score on a two-out triple to left from sophomore Aislin Davis (Tewksbury, Mass.). Davis' triple and the RBI are the first of the season for the Huskies' outfielder. One batter later, Moore singled to left scoring Davis for the 4-1 Husky advantage.
- Eastern Connecticut took two runs back in the bottom of the fourth tightening the game up at 4-3. Julia Boya had a sacrifice fly RBI to left for the first run, while Elizabeth Mitchel picked up an RBI single. After a one-two-three top of the fifth for the Huskies, the Warriors tied the game up in the home half of the inning. Abby Thompson connected on a one-out triple and Sam Healy drove her in with a sacrifice fly RBI.
- The Huskies had a two-out runner on in the top of the sixth after a single from sophomore Gwen Christie (Barnstead, NH/Prospect Mountain), but were unable to come up repeat any two-out offense.
- In the sixth, Bowen had an RBI single to right to put Eastern on top 5-4. The Warriors looked to add to its tally, but USM got the final two outs as Coots picked up a strikeout and Bowen was cut down at third.
- Down a run in the top of the sixth, Mitchell, the game-one winner, entered in relief. Mitchell got the first Husky batter via strikeout and then filed back-to-back infield outs for the save and the 5-4 Eastern win.
