How It Happened: Game One – Southern Maine vs. Rutgers Camden
- With both pitchers controlling tempo, the game was scoreless through two and a half innings before the Huskies' used timely hitting generating a pair of runs on two outs.
- After back-to-back ground outs, USM's sophomore Aislin Davis (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Avery Moore (Dublin, NH) went for back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second for the Huskies. Both Davis and Moore came around to score on the next at bat as freshman Emily Wheeler (Old Town, Maine) knocked a two-run double to the gap in right for a 2-0 Husky lead.
- With a lead in hand, Coots picked up two of her six strikeouts of the game in the fourth to keep Rutgers-Camden off the board. In the fifth, Coots erased a lead-off single – the only hit she allowed in the game – with strong defense behind her.
- Relying on Coots' pitching and solid defensive play, Southern Maine remained ahead 2-0 headed into the bottom of the sixth. The Huskies again generate offense with two outs against them to take a 3-0 lead into the seventh. Senior Ella Bezanson (Amesbury, Mass.) started the rally with a two-out single to center before sophomore Ava Gerrish (Limerick, Maine/Massabesic) came up big with a pinch-hit RBI double to center field to drive in Bezanson.
- In the seventh, Coots gave up a lead off walk but came back with a fly out and her sixth strikeout of the game to keep the runner on first. She sealed the win forcing a pop up and getting the putout herself for the 3-0 final.
- The Huskies' had five hits off of Rutgers-Camden hurler Anna Milillo. Wheeler went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI in her intercollegiate debut. Bezanson was 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk.
Game Two - Southern Maine vs. Ursinus
- After falling behind 5-0 in the bottom of the first, Southern Maine rallied with a five-run inning of its own in the top of the third to tie the game up. Johnson entered the game with two outs gone in the first and runners on first and third. Getting out of the first, Johnson was clutch keeping Ursinus off the scoreboard for the next four innings to give her team a chance to rally. In the second, Johnson showed her mettle and battled her way out of bases loaded one-out jam in the second, getting the final out the first of her four strikeouts in the game.
- In the top of the third, Southern Maine was able to push five runs across the plate to pull even with Ursinus. Moore led off with a single and moved up to second on a catcher's interference call the put senior Olivia Levasseur (Amesbury, Mass.) at first. After Bezanson was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Ursinus was able to get the second out of the inning on an infield fly. But the Huskies again came through with two away. Senior Kristina Yebba (Danvers, Mass.) scored Moore with a single to left, making it 5-1.
- On the next at-bat, Husky freshman Adeline Khazadian (Ashland, Mass.) recorded the first of three pinch-hit successes drawing a walk for an RBI making it 5-2, scoring Levasseur and keeping the bases load. On the next play, junior Brianna Grenier (Cumberland, RI) made it 5-3 with a single of her own to bring Bezanson home.
- Sending sophomore Emma Ingalls (Newport News, Va./Menchville) to the plate as the third consecutive pinch hitter, Ingalls laced a two-run single to center to tie the game up at 5-5 before Ursinus ended the inning.
- In the bottom of the third, Johnson retired the first two Ursinus hitters with a line out to second base and a strikeout before allowing back-to-back singles. With runners in scoring position, Johnson was able to keep the game level getting a ground out for the final out.
- In the top of the fourth, Southern Maine was able to score the go-ahead run. Levasseur put herself in scoring position with a one-out triple through the right side. Levasseur came around to score on the next play as Bezanson hit an RBI single to left for a 6-5 Husky lead.
- Both pitchers kept things quite over the next two innings. Johnson erased a lead off single in the fourth with a pair of fly outs and a strikeout, and in the fifth she retired Ursinus in order keeping Southern Maine up 6-5.
- Coots entered in relief of Johnson to start the bottom of the sixth and earned three consecutive outs, putting the game just three outs away from a Southern Maine victory.
- Southern Maine looked to put another run across in the top of the seventh, but Ursinus' Lily McGrath, who entered in the third and did not allow a hit, put the Huskies down in order.
- Ursinus looked poised to steal the game back from the Huskies in the bottom of the seventh. Tierney Stuempfle led off the inning with a double, and Ursinus loaded the bases on back-to-back walks squeezed from Coots. However, Southern Maine's defense came up big as Levasseur snagged a line-drive and doubled off Stuempfle to give USM two outs. Needing just one out to preserve the win and get the save, Coots got Ursinus' final batter to ground out to Levasseur for the 6-5 final.
