Monks Sweep Huskies 3-0

STANDISH, Maine – The University of Southern Maine women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to the Saint Joseph's College of Maine Monks on Tuesday night in Standish in a battle between local rivals. Victoria Briones led the Monk in kills with 11 while Riley Greenley recorded 17 assists. Freshman Reese Helisek (Halifax, Mass./Silver Lake Regional) led the Huskies in both assists (12) and digs (10). Freshman Haylie Bidegain (Logan, N.M.) led Southern Maine in kills with four and added two aces and solo block for seven total points.

Series History:
The Huskies lead the all-time series 51-36. Saint Joseph's won the first meeting of the season 3-0 on August 29th at the Coast of Maine Classic hosted by the University of New England.
 
How It Happened:
  • The Monks pulled out a 26-24 win in the first set by scoring the final three points of the set after a back-and-forth battle.
  • Saint Joseph's used a 6-0 run to take the lead and pulled away to a 13-7 lead in the second set. They then closed out the set with seven straight points to win 25-10.
  • The third set ended 25-15 in favor of the Monks to give them the sweep.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Junior Kylee Eubanks-Hemme (Rosamond, Cali.) had four of Southern Maine's eight aces in the match. She also had three kills to tie with Bidegain for the team lead in points with seven.
  • Junior Amelia Beatty (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) finished second on the team in digs with nine.
 
Up Next:
The Huskies will play a tri-match at Emerson College on Saturday. They will face Emerson at 1:30 pm and Springfield College at 3:30 pm.
