Huskies Thump UMaine Fort Kent 5-0

Five Different Goal Scorers for Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine –  Sophomore Meghan Przybilla (St. Anthony, Minn.) scored her third goal of the season, and five different Huskies scored, as the University of Southern Maine defeated the UMaine Fort Kent Bengals 5-0 in a non-conference women's soccer game Wednesday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

Freshman Marie Benoit (Hallowell, Maine/Hall-Dale) and sophomore Natalie Flageolle (Broomfield, Colo./Legacy) each recorded their first intercollegiate goal for the Huskies' side, while junior Maya Bermudez (West Haven, Conn.) and freshman Lexi Morin (Brunswick, Maine) also added goals.

The Records:
UMaine Fort Kent (0-2)
Southern Maine (2-0)

Today's game marks the third in the series between the Huskies and the Bengals. USM leads the series 2-1.  Southern Maine won the 2024 contest 8-0 at home. Prior to the 2024 contest, the Huskies last faced UMFK in 2011 falling 3-0.

How It Happened:
  • Despite numerous chances in the first 20 minutes, the Huskies remained at a scoreless draw with UMFK thanks in part to a herculean effort in goal by Bengal Kamoy Brown who entered the game in the sixth minute for the injured starter.  Brown finished with 14 saves in the contest, including nine in the first half.
  • Przybilla broke through for her third goal of the season in the 23rd minute knocking in a far post goal off of the service from classmate Madi Sainis (Peirrefonds, Quebec/St. Thomas).
  • The Huskies went up 2-0 headed into the halftime break when Flageolle buried her attempt in the 39th minute off of a feed from sophomore Ani Roberts (Bangor, Maine).
  • Southern Maine piled on three more goals in the second half.  Bermudez bombed in a far post, upper corner shot in the 51st off of a cross from sophomore Taryn Curry (Scarborough, Maine/Freeport).
  • In the 57th, Morin (Brunswick, Maine) scored her second goal in as many games with a dart of a shot off of an assist from sophomore Makyla Magid (Golden, Colo./Lakewood) before Benoit closed the game with her first goal of her Husky career in the 80th.
