Nor’easters Hold Off Southern Maine 2-1

Przybilla Notches Fourth Goal of 2025


BIDDEFORD, Maine  –  Ashley Clark and Kylie Curtin each scored a goal to pace the University of New England Nor'easters to a 2-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
 
Husky sophomore Meghan Przybilla (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony's) scored her fourth goal in three games to account for the Southern Maine offense. 
 
UNE netminder Haley Coombs made 12 saves in the win to keep the Nor'easters ahead as Southern Maine outshot UNE 24-12 in the game, including 18-6 in the second half.

Today's game marks the 33rd meeting between the University of Southern Maine and the University of New England. The series is even at 15-15-3. UNE won two the 2019 and 2022 meetings, and the Huskies earned a 3-2 win in 2021, and the 2024 game 4-3.  In 2023, the Huskies and Nor'easters battled to a 1-1 draw in Biddeford.
 
 
How It Happened:
  • With both teams firing six shots in the opening half, the Nor'easters were able to push one into the net for a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute as Clark notched her second goal of the season.
  • The Nor'easters made it 2-0 early in the second half as Curtin scored her third goal of the season in the 48th minute.
  • Southern Maine answered back with a goal in the 59th as Przybilla scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season. She was assisted on the play by senior Devan Sherry (Gorham, Maine/Waynflete).

Inside The Stats:
  •  Southern Maine outshot the Nor'easters 24-12 (13-7 on goal) and had a 7-4 lead in corner kicks.
  • Sherry's assist is the third of her Southern Maine career for the center back.  Przybilla now has nine goals in her 24-game career. 
 
Up Next:
The Huskies have five more games on the road before returning to Hannaford Field.  Southern Maine travels to nationally-ranked Colby College on September 9 (4:30 pm) before opening its Little East schedule at UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, September 13 (1:00 pm).  After their game with the Corsairs, Southern Maine travels to Bowdoin College on Tuesday, September 16 (8:00 pm) before taking on Division I University of New Hampshire on Sunday, September 21 (2:00 pm).
