PROVIDENCE, RI - Sophomore
Alex Graver (Freeport, Maine) converted a penalty kick with second remaining in regulation to deliver a 1-1 draw for the University of Southern Maine Huskies on the road against Rhode Island College Anchormen in a Little East Conference men's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
The goal is Graver's third of the season, and his second penalty kick goal of 2025. He has three goals and two assists for a team-leading eight points.

Today marked the 58
th meeting between Rhode Island College and the University of Southern Maine. RIC leads the series 33-16-9. Today's draw is the first positive result for the Huskies against RIC since a 0-0 draw during the 2022 season. Prior to today's game, the Anchormen had won the last two straight and were 10-0-2 against the Huskies since their last defeat to Southern Maine in 2012 (3-0). .
How It Happened:
- Pressuring the Huskies' defense to start the game recording four shots and a pair of corner kicks in the opening 30 minutes, the Anchormen led 1-0 in the 32nd minute. Lucas Duquette scored his second goal of the season completing an assist from Julian Orellana to put RIC in front.
- RIC carried its one-goal advantage into the half, and outshot the Huskies 8-0 in the frame. Husky goalkeeper Gabe Wagner (Freeport, Maine) made a pair of saves in the first half.
- Southern Maine turned the tide in the second half and outshot RIC 8-5. Graver carried USM's offense and had three shots early in the second half, including an attempt to the lower left corner, but RIC Shane Merklein made one of his three saves in the game to keep the lead.
- With time expiring, USM looked to be stuck with a one goal deficit before a late RIC foul granted the Huskies an opportunity with a penalty kick with 89:12 expired in the game. With Graver converting, Southern Maine saw out the clock and left with a draw.
