GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine women's volleyball team overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat the New England College 3-2 on Tuesday night in Gorham. Down two sets to none, the Huskies dominated the third and fourth sets to force a tiebreaking fifth set. The Huskies then completed the comeback by scoring the final four points after being down 13-11 for a 15-13 win. Freshman
Taylor Joyal (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) led the Huskies with 18 kills followed by freshman
Mariah Eaton (West Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) with 10. Freshman
Reese Helisek (Halifax, Mass./Silver Lake Regional) logged 37 assists and 20 digs while junior
Amelia Beatty (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) had 23 digs and added five assists.

Series History:
The Huskies now trail New England College 4-2 in the all-time series. Tonight's win snaps a four-game winning streak by the Pilgrims in the series.

How It Happened:
- New England College scored the first four points of the opening set and stay ahead the whole way for a 25-15 win.
- The Pilgrims started the second set in a similar fashion to how they opened the first with 5-0 run only for the Huskies to match it to tie the score at 5-5. The Pilgrims eventually pulled away late with a 6-0 run and took the set 25-19.
- The trend of strong runs to open each set continued as the Huskies went up 5-0 in the third set. However, this time it was the Pilgrims' turn to rally back as they cut the score to 5-4. A 9-0 run that featured three kills from junior Kylee Eubanks-Hemme (Rosamond, Cali.) and Eaton helped the Huskies to pull away and take the set 25-13.
- Southern Maine used an 8-0 run to take a 13-6 lead in the fourth set and set themselves up to tie the match. Despite a late charge by the Pilgrims, the Huskies took the set 25-17 to force a fifth set.
- The Huskies went up 2-0 to start the set only for the Pilgrims to take a 4-3 lead. The lead was extended to 7-5 before a 4-0 run put the Huskies ahead 9-7 before the match was tied once again at 9-9. New England College went up 13-11 before the Huskies ended the match on a 4-0 run.

- Helisek and Joyal each had three aces. The Huskies had 11 as a team and New England College had 12.
- Eubanks-Hemme placed third on the team in kills with eight.
- Sophomore Casey Murillo (League City, Texas/Clear Falls) had two kills and several key digs in the fourth set for the Huskies.
- Freshman Scarlett Squires (Mount Desert, Maine/Mount Desert Island) added six kills.

The Huskies will travel to UMass Dartmouth on Saturday for a tri-match. They will face the hosts at noon in their first Little East Conference match of the season before battling Trinity College at 2:00 pm.
