No. 8 Bates Powers Past Southern Maine 4-0

LEWISTON, Maine  - Lilly Hogan scored late in the first quarter to break a scoreless tie and propel the No. 8 Bates College Bobcats to a 4-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Tuesday night at Campus Avenue Field.

Today's game marked   the 64th meeting between the Huskies and the Bobcats.  Bates leads the overall series 45-15-4.  The Huskies last victory against Bates came on October 22, 2015  - a 4-3 overtime victory at home. Bates has won the last eight consecutively.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Playing in its season-opener, Bates had four individual goal scorers en route to its win.  Playing strong defense for the first half, the Huskies trailed the Bobcats 1-0 at haftime.
  • Sophie O'Sullivan and Brooke Moloney-Kolenberg each scored unassisted goals in the third quarter to balloon the Bates lead to 3-0.
  • Caroline Nowak made it 4-0 in the 51st minute to cap the scoring and seal the 4-0 win.
 
Inside The Statistics:
  • Husky freshman Allison Marines (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) made her intercollegiate debut, entering in goal for the fourth quarter. She made two saves.
  • Bates held a 19-0 edge in shots, and an 8-0 lead in penalty corners.
 
Up Next:
Southern Maine remains on the road in non-conference action and travels to University of Hartford on Saturday (2:00 pm), and then hosts no. 24 Bowdoin College on Tuesday (7:00 pm) at Hannaford Field.
