HARTFORD, Conn. – Freshman
Mackenzie Hall (Westbrook, Maine) scored her first intercollegiate goal to get the Huskies on the board and the University of Southern Maine rolled to a 4-0 win over the University of Hartford Hawks in a non-conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Al-Marzook Field.
Hall was the first of four different goal scorers for the Huskies in the contest. Junior
HJ Tuplin (Lisbon, Maine) had a goal and an assist for Southern Maine.

Today's game marked the first meeting between the University of Hartford Hawks and the University of Southern Maine. The Huskies now lead the series 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Outshooting the Hawks 6-0 in the opening quarter, Hall found the back of the net in the seventh minute for the 1-0 lead. Hall was assisted by first-year Maddie Niles (Benton, Maine/Lawrence).
- USM again dominated offensively in the second quarter with a 5-3 advantage in shots and a 4-1 lead in penalty corners, but was unable to find a second goal as Hartford goalkeeper Caroly Somers made 10 of her 14 saves in the opening half.
- The Huskies scored twice in the third quarter to seize control of the game 3-0. Tuplin scored her first goal of 2023 in the 34th minute before sophomore Leah Thibodeau (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) made it 4-0 with an unassisted goal in the 38th.
- Addison Hawthorne (Newport, Maine/Nokomis Regional) scored for Southern Maine in the 47th minute to make it 4-0, finishing a feed from Tuplin.
Inside The Statistics:
- Southern Maine outshot the Hawks 19-8 in the contest (18-4 on goal), but Hartford had a slim edge in penalty corners 9-8. The Hawks had eight of their nine penalty corners in the fourth quarter.
- Tuplin's goal is the first for the junior since the 2023 season after missing 2024. Hawthorne and Hall are first-time goal scorers for the Huskies. Thibodeau now has five career goals after scoring four in her rookie season (2024).

Southern Maine hosts no. 24 Bowdoin College on Tuesday (7:00 pm) at Hannaford Field, facing its second nationally-ranked program in its first five games of the season. The Huskies return to the road in non-conference action and will travel to Wheaton (Mass.) on Saturday, September 13 (12:00 pm) before starting a three-game home stand hosting Husson on Saturday, September 20 (1:00 pm), Endicott College on Wednesday, September 24 (7:00 pm) and Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on Monday, September 29 (7:00 pm).
