Southern Maine Shuts Out UMass Dartmouth 3-0

Sainis, Benoit and Roberts Score for Huskies

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.  –  Sophomores Madi Sainis (Pierrefords, Quebec/St. Thomas) and Ani Roberts (Bangor, Maine) and freshman Marie Benoit (Hallowell, Maine/Hall-Dale) each scored to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 3-0 shutout win over the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs in a Little East Conference women's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.

Sainis and Roberts are scoring for the first time in 2025, while Benoit notched the second goal of her intercollegiate career.

The Records:

UMass Dartmouth (2-2-1)

Today's game marks the 38th meeting between the University of Southern Maine and UMass Dartmouth. Southern Maine has won the last seven consecutively, and leads the series 19-15-4. The Huskies defeated the Corsairs 6-2 at home in 2022, 2-0 on the road in 2023, and 6-0 at home in 2024.

How It Happened:
  • Pressuring the UMD defense early, Southern Maine took eight shots and had three corners in the opening 21 minutes of the game.  Sainis broke through for the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute. Sainis received a well-paced through ball from Magid to the left side of the box and finished to the right for the 1-0 lead.
  • Benoit scored her second goal of 2025 in the 38th minute to double the Husky advantage.  Sophmore Meghan Przybilla (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony's) carried the ball down the right side of the field after the Huskies defense forced a turnover from the Corsairs.  Przybilla launched a shot at the near post and UMD keeper Marina Cassano made a strong save but Benoit completed the run, and hit a volley out of the air on the rebound for the 2-0 score.
  • Roberts made it 3-0 with second remaining the half.  Strong defensive work from Magid in the middle of the field dispossessed the Corsairs, and senior Cierra Hill (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke Academy) laid the ball off to her right for Roberts who teed off a shot from distance to beat Cassano. The goal is the first of Roberts' collegiate career.
