Huskies Dominate Corsairs 13-4 in Morgan Memorial Game

GORHAM, Maine –   The University of Southern Maine Huskies delivered a commanding 13-4 win over the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs during the Morgan Memorial Game hosted this afternoon at Hannaford Field. Fueled by hat tricks from Eliza Pattershall (Readfield, Maine / Maranacook) and Anna Byers (Milford, Conn. / Joseph A. Foran), the Huskies jumped out to a fast start and never looked back.

Southern Maine struck early and often, putting up seven unanswered goals in the first quarter alone. Six different Huskies found the back of the net, showcasing the team's depth and offensive variety. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Lydia Laslavic (Thomaston, Maine / Oceanside) played a key role in keeping the Corsairs at bay, finishing the game with 10 saves.

Despite a late push from UMass Dartmouth, highlighted by a hat trick from Maddy Allen and a goal from Jenny Lipanovich, the Huskies maintained control from start to finish.

How It Happened:

  • First Quarter:
The Huskies wasted no time as sophomore Eliza Pattershall scored just 40 seconds into the game, the first of her three first-quarter goals for an early hat trick. Anna Byers added her first of the day, followed by goals from Cierra Hill (Pembroke, N.H. / Pembroke Academy) and Elaina Hanselmann (Sanford, Maine), giving Southern Maine a 7-0 lead after one.
  • Second Quarter:
Scoring slowed in the second, but the Huskies extended their lead with goals from Hanselmann and Maddie Kinney (Topsham, Maine / Mt. Ararat). The Corsairs got on the board with an unassisted goal by Maddy Allen, making it 9-1 at halftime.
  • Third Quarter:
Southern Maine continued to control the pace with three more goals. C. Hill scored her second, followed by tallies from Pattershall and Byers, bringing the score to 12-1 heading into the final quarter.
  • Fourth Quarter:
Kiaya Gatchell (Portland, ME / Deering) netted her first goal of the game and the Huskies' last. UMass Dartmouth showed late energy, scoring three more—one from Jenny Lipanovich and two from Maddy Allen, securing her hat trick and bringing the final score to 13-4.
