GORHAM, Maine - Trailing 7-1 after the top of the fifth, the University of Southern Maine Huskies rallied with eight runs over the final four innings to earn an 9-8 win over the Saint Joseph's College (Maine) Monks in a non-conference baseball game Monday afternoon at Ed Flaherty Field.
Highlighted by a two-run home run from sophomore
Peter Keblinsky (Ellsworth, Maine), the Huskies tied the game up with a four-run bottom of the sixth, and then scored the go-ahead run in the eight off the bat of junior
Dylan Firmin (Stratham, NH/Exeter) who stroked an RBI double down the left field line for the game-deciding run.
Junior
Jack Bruno (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) earned the win on the mound for the Huskies pitching four strong innings of relief. Entering the game in the top of the sixth, Bruno allowed just three hits and a run over four strong innings without yielding a walk, and striking out three.

How It Happened:
- After a scoreless first two innings, Southern Maine took a 1-0 lead in the third as sophomore Mike Anquillare (North Haven, Conn.) connected on an RBI single to score senior Anthony Poole (South Portland, Maine) who led off the inning with a single.
- The Huskies lead was short-lived however as SJC took the lead in the fourth with a pair of unearned runs, and then led 7-1 adding five more runs in the top of the fifth. The Monks used three hits, two walks and two hit batters to generate their five runs. Jared Wihelm had a two-run double down the left field line as part of the Monks scoring rally.
- Trailing the Monks by six, the Huskies cut their deficit in half with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Junior Kyle Douin (Augusta, Maine/Cony) started the inning with a double to left, and moved up to third on a SJC throwing error to give the Huskies runners on the corners with no outs. Anquillare stepped in and doubled to the gap in left for two RBI scoring Douin and Keblinsky for a 7-3 game. After another error from the Monks resulted on runners on second and third, Firmin lofted a sacrifice fly into center field for an RBI to score Anquillare before the inning ended and a 7-4 scoreline.
- Monk freshman Nic Frink made it an 8-4 game in the top of the sixth lacing a one-out home run over the fence in left, but the Huskies strung together an impressive two-out rally in the home half of the sixth to knot the game up at eight runs each. With two away, Douin drew a walk and moved up to second on a wild pitch. However, the base advance as unnecessary as Keblinksy launched his team-leading sixth home run of the season clearing the left field fence for an 8-6 score.
- After Keblinksy's homer, Anquillare continued his solid day at the plate with a walk, and freshman Drew Scialdone (Amesbury, Mass.) and senior Jack LeBlond (Lewiston, Maine/Bridgton Academy) went back-to-back with infield singles to load the bases. Firmin was hit by a pitch on the next play for an RBI, and junior Chris Quigley (Halifax, Mass./Silver Lake Regional) drew an RBI walk to tie the game.
- In the seventh, Bruno worked around a lead off single and was helped out by his defense with a double-play before retiring the side with a strikeout. In the home half of the seventh, USM had base runners as Keblinsky connected on a single and Anquillare was hit with two outs, but SJC ended the threat with a ground out.
- Bruno put SJC down in order in the eighth, and in the bottom of the inning LeBlond doubled to right to start the Huskies, and Firmin drove him in for Southern Maine's first lead since the bottom of the third, 9-8.
- Saint Joseph's fought for an equalizer in the ninth, but Bruno got the first two outs on fly balls to left before giving up a two-out single. Bruno bounced back however, with another fly out to end the game.
