How It Happened: Game One – USM 10, Colby 4
  • Renner and Bezanson were outstanding offensively in game one.  Bezanson had two RBI on a 3-for-4 effort at the plate  including a triple and a double with two runs scored, while Renner drove in three runs on a 2-for-4 effort, including a double.  The Huskies collected 11 hits off of the Colby battery, including six for extra bases.
  • Junior Kendall Migliorini (Salem, NH) drove in the Huskies first run of the game with a one-out double in the first, and the Mules scored an unearned run to tie the score up at 1-1.  After a scoreless second, Southern Maine scored twice in the third to lead 3-1. Dufresne and Renner each had RBI singles in the inning for the Huskies.  Colby came back in the home half of the third to trail 3-2 as Ella Wilcox singled down the right field line for an RBI.
  • The Huskies seized control of the game with a four-run top of the fourth. Junior Olivia Levasseur (Amesbury, Mass.) led off with a single through the right side, and moved up to third on a fielder's choice play.  With an error on the same play, USM had runners on the corners as Bezanson laced a triple down the right field line for two RBI and a 5-1 lead. The Huskies scored twice more on a pair of Colby errors to lead 7-1 headed to the bottom of the fourth. In the fourth, Colby had two runners on with now outs, but McIntosh battled getting out of the inning with a trio of groundouts.
  • Both team were quiet through the fifth before Southern Maine increased its lead to 9-2 in the top of the sixth.  With Bezanson leading off with a walk, the Huskies had runners on first and third with one out following a fielding error. Colby snagged another out with a fly ball to left field, before Renner generated some two-out offense with a two-run double in the gap in left for a pair of unearned runs. In the bottom of the sixth, McIntosh stayed solid working around a one-out single to push USM to the top of seven with an 9-2 lead.
  • To start the top of the seventh, Husky freshman Gwen Christie (Barnstead, NH/Prospect Mountain) blasted her second career home run over the left field fence to give the Huskies a 10-2 advantage. Colby made a late rally scoring twice in the seventh on an RBI single from Wilcox and an RBI double from Avery Lyman, but Coots entered the game in relief of McIntosh to get three consecutive outs, including a pair of strikeouts, for the 10-4 final.

Game Two -  USM 7, Colby 3
  • After a scoreless first inning, Southern Maine scored twice in the top of the second, and three times in the third to lead Colby 5-0. Sophomore Maddy Paradis (Salem, NH) pushed the Huskies first run across the plate with an RBI single in the second before Levasseur made it 2-0 with an RBI single of her own.
  • Colby got its lead runner on in the second as Wilcox led off with a double, but Coots got back-to-back pop-ups to shortstop, and a ground out to second to keep the Huskies up 2-0 headed into the third. In the third, Bezanson quickly made it 3-0 with a lead-off home run to the gap in left.  Junior Alana Delisle (Amesbury, Mass.) singled on the next at bat, and Miglinorini drew a walk for runners on first and second.  Colby erased two outs on the next better with a double play, with only Migliorini safe at second. With two away and one on, Dufresne made it 5-0 with her team-leading third home run of the season.
  • Coots continued to control the game in the circle working around a lead-off double and a walk in the third, and a two-out double in the fourth to keep USM comfortably ahead 5-0 headed to the fifth. In the fifth, Southern Maine scored two more times on three hits, including an RBI triple to center from Dufresne and an RBI single from Paradis for a 7-0 advantage.
  • Colby's Caroline DeSimone made it 7-1 with an RBI single up the middle in the fifth, and then cut the lead to 7-3 in the sixth with a two-run three-hit bottom of the sixth.  Kelsey Sullivan had an RBI double to left in the sixth for the Mules, while Emma Burnham doubled down the left field line for an RBI.
  • Despite a pair of walks in the seventh, USM was unable to score any more runs and remained in front headed to the bottom of the inning. Coots sealed the win getting back-to-back outs on a fly ball to left and an infield ground out before yielding a double to Lyman.  Coots bounced back however, getting a foul out to first to end the game.
