How It Happened: Game One – SJC 8, USM 3
  • Tied at 1-1 through the fourth inning, Saint Joseph's College took the lead in the top of the fifth, 3-1. The Monks used three hits and a pair of walks to pick up its two runs.  Sylvia Foley singled through the right side to give the Monks the lead scoring Sadie Tirrell who led off the inning with a one-out single.  Chantelle Bouchard made it 3-1 with an RBI single up the middle.
  • The Huskies threated for runs in the bottom of the sixth with two runners on, but the Monks used a double play (second-to-shortstop-to-first) to end the inning and remain in front 3-1.  The Monks shut the door on the game with five runs in the top of the seventh.  Bouchard had a two-run home run to start the scoring, the Monks added three more runs taking advantage of a pair of Husky fielding errors.  Bouchard finished the game going 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBI.
  • Southern Maine took back two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore Finley Folkett (Morden, Manitoba) led off the inning with a pinch-hit single to left, and then crossed home plate as freshman Gwen Christie (Barnstead, NH/Prospect Mountain) connected on the first home run of her intercollegiate career for a pair of RBI.  Christie hit a no-doubt shot over the left field fence for the milestone homer.  The Huskies collected one more hit in the inning, but SJC bounced back getting the final two outs for the win.

Game Two -  USM 6, SJC 3
  • Down 1-0 after the top of the third, Southern Maine roared back to take the lead scoring three runs in the home half of the inning. The Huskies loaded the bases as freshman Hannah Garcia (Dartmouth, Mass.) led off the inning with a single, junior Kristina Yebba (Danvers, Mass.) drew a walk, and junior Olivia Levasseur reached on a fielder's choice play with one out.  Southern Maine tied the game, 1-1,  on an RBI walk from junior Ella Bezanson (Amesbury, Mass.) .  On the next play,  Renner hit a deep fly ball into the game in right field.  The Monks' right fielder made a solid play on the run to rob Renner of the hit, but two runners tagged and scored on the play for a 3-1 Husky lead.
  • The score remained 3-1 in favor of the Huskies through the top of the fifth before Dufresne made it 5-1 with a hard-hit two-run single to the gap in right.  With two outs, Levasseur started the rally with a single through the left side, and was followed by Bezanson's single up the middle.  After a walk to Renner loaded the bases, Dufresne connected on a clutch hit to drive in Bezanson and Levasseur.
  • SJC trimmed its deficit to 5-2 in the top of the sixth on a one-out solo home run from Abby Carpenter. The Monks threatened for more after a walk to Sydney Lacombe and a double from Paige Connery had runners on second and third with one out.  However, Lee entered the game in relief of Coots, and got a strikeout and a foul out to keep USM ahead by three.
  • Southern Maine tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.  Junior Alana DeLisle (Amesbury, Mass.) had a sacrifice fly RBI to center field for the run.  Garcia led off the inning with a single, and her runner moved up to third on a single from Yebba before DeLisle plated the necessary run for a 6-2 lead.
  • The Monks looked to rally in the top of the seventh and struck for a run with two singles and a pair of walks with one out.  But Lee settled down getting a pair of fly ball outs to preserve the win and earn the save.
