GORHAM, Maine – Junior
Katelyn D'Appolonia (Yarmouth, Maine) scored five goals and recorded an assist on Monday evening for the University of Southern Maine women's lacrosse team in a 16-5 Little East Conference win against the Keene State College Owls. D'Appolonia played in her first game since March 19 and had an impressive return to the Southern Maine lineup. Juniors
Cierra Hill (Pembroke, N.H./Pembroke Academy) and
Maddie Kinney (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) each had four points. Hill's points came from four goals while Kinney had a goal and three assists.
Sophomore
Eliza Pattershall (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook) and senior
Elaina Hanselmann (Sanford, Maine) each scored twice for the Huskies. Senior
Anna Byers (Milford, Ct./ Joseph A. Foran) also had two points with a goal and an assist. Fifth-year senior
Kiaya Gatchell (Portland, Maine/Deering) scored a goal as well. Byers led the Huskies with five draw controls to become the 10th player in program history to reach 100 or more.

Lydia Laslavic (Thomaston, Maine / Oceanside) turned in another great game in goal with a career-high 13 saves.

Today was the 34th game between Keene State and Southern Maine. The Owls lead the series 25-9. Last season's game saw the Owls win 9-8 on their home field.

How It Happened:
- The first goal of the game was scored by Hill on a free-position goal with the Huskies up a woman. Tess Brown tied the game for Keene State before Byers set up a goal by Pattershall to allow the Huskies to retake the lead. Back-to-back goals by Chase Gengras and Anna Maccarini gave the Owls a 3-2 lead with 3:57 left in the first quarter. Maccarini's goal came on the up and she also assisted on Gengras' goal.
- The Huskies scored twice in the final 70 seconds of the first quarter to take a 4-3 lead into the first break. Pattershall and Hanselmann provided the goals with D'Appolonia and Kinney assisting.
- The second quarter was all Huskies as Southern Maine outshot Keene State 11-3 and outscored them 3-0. Hanselmann had the first goal, followed by D'Appolonia on a free-position shot. Gatchell scored a down-goal with 1:08 left in the half after a nice feed from Kinney behind the net.
- D'Appolonia scored three more times in the third quarter with all three coming on free-position attempts. Hill and Kinney also each scored a free-position goal as well in the quarter.
- The Huskies closed out the game with a 4-0 run in the fourth quarter. Hill scored twice while Byers and D'Appolonia also found the back of net.
