How It Happened: Game One – Castleton 2, Southern Maine 0
  • Samera Rideout hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first and the VTSU-Castleton Spartans rode the solid pitching of starter Madison Gould to take a 2-0 win in game one.
  • Gould struck out eight and allowed just three hits and a walk to earn her sixth win of the season, and earn the shutout.
  • Junior Lexus McIntosh (Lancaster, NH/White Mountains Regional) absorbed the loss despite a strong pitching effort. McIntosh pitched six innings allowing four hits and walk.  Junior Kendall Migliorini (Salem, NH) collected two of the Huskies' three hits, including a double.

Game Two -  Southern Maine 5, Castleton 0
  • Coots threw an outstanding seven innings striking out a career-high 10 to earn the 5-0 shutout in game two.  Coots held the Spartan hitters to just four singles and a walk in the win.
  • Migliorini, junior Mackenzie Renner (Alton, NH/Prospect Mountain) and sophomore Maddy Paradis (Salem, NH) each had doubles for Southern Maine as part of an eight-hit attack. Migliorini, and freshman Gwen Christie (Barnstead, NH) each had RBI.
  • Migliorini put the Huskies up early 1-0 in the top of the first with a two-out RBI double to the gap in left, scoring junior Alana Delisle (Amesbury, Mass.) who reached safely with a one-out single.
  • Coots dominated from there keeping the Spartans off the scoreboard and not allowing a baserunner past first as USM remained ahead 1-0 through three innings.
  • The Huskies upped their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs.  Renner led off the inning with a double, and the Huskies took advantage of a single from sophomore Finley Folkett (Morden, Manitoba/Canada) a walk, and a critical fielding error.
  • Southern Maine made it 5-0 in the top of the fifth.  Patient at the plate, USM loaded the bases on a single from Migliorini and back-to-back-to-back walks from Renner, Paradis and freshman Hannah Garcia (Dartmouth, Mass.) the Huskies led 4-0. Christie made it 5-0 with an RBI single to left.
  • Up 5-0, Coots continued to roll.  And in the bottom of the seventh, Coots struck out a pair of batters to get her new career high, and earn the win.
