McKim Reaches 3,000 Career Saves in 3-2 Loss to UMass Boston

GORHAM, Maine – Fifth-year senior goalie Haley McKim (Moncton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) made 36 saves in a 3-2 setback against the UMass Boston Beacons on Saturday afternoon and in the process became just the seventh goaltender in NCAA Division III women's ice hockey to reach 3,000 career saves. McKim now has 3,005 saves in her career. Despite a strong effort from McKim and the Huskies, the Beacons prevailed thanks to a third period power-play goal by Katie Wilbert.

Senior Ally Stymiest (Moncton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) and junior Olivia Stewart (Fredericton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) each scored for the second consecutive game. Seniors Jess MacLean (Red Point, Nova Scotia) and Amelie St-Amant (Ottawa, Ontario/ Ontario Hockey Academy) had assists on Stymiest's power-play score while Stewart's goal was unassisted. MacLean and St-Amant each played in their 100th career game this afternoon.
UMass Boston also had goals from Gianna Skrelja and Liz Kramp.

How It Happened:
  • After a scoreless first period Stymiest scored on the power play 1:14 into the second period for her 12th goal of the season and her fifth on the power-play. Stymiest cashed in the rebound after St-Amant's shot was deflected by the stick of a UMass Boston player.
  • The Beacons tied the game 16:18 into the period on a goal by Skrelja that was assisted by Mia Boyd and Emily Hansen.
  • Kramp gave the Beacons the lead 1:33 into the third with a goal after taking the puck from center ice and skating across the blue line to fire a shot past McKim.
  • Stewart scored her second goal in as many days on a breakaway to tie the game with 6:35 left in regulation. However, the Beacons went on the power play shortly after and Wilbert scored on a wraparound to give UMass Boston the lead and the Beacons closed out the game for the 3-2 win.
