NEWPORT, R.I. – Riley Esposito scored twice and had an assist to help the Salve Regina University Seahawks to a 3-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies on Friday night. Samantha McKenzie assisted on two goals for the Seahawks. The Huskies' goal came from sophomore Ellie Eigner (Bowling Green, Ohio/ South Lyon East) with Shannon Murphy (Pembroke, Mass./Brewster Academy) providing the assist.
 
Taylor Hannafan made 15 saves in the win while fifth-year senior Haley McKim (Moncton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) had 35 saves.

Series History:
Tonight's game was the first between the Huskies and Seahawks since the 2017-18 season. Southern Maine leads the series 17-11-3.

Southern Maine: Haley McKim (8-11-2): 60:00, three goals allowed, 35 saves
Salve Regina: Taylor Hannafan (8-3-0): 59:59, one goal allowed, 15 saves
 
How It Happened:

• Margueritte Donahue converted on an early power-play opportunity 4:16 into the first period with McKenzie and Esposito assisting on the goal. McKim made 11 saves after that to keep the score at 1-0 after the first 20 minutes. Junior Caroline Thompson (Victoria, Prince Edward Island/Mount Academy) had a shot hit the post in the period.
• Esposito doubled the lead 13:24 into the second with an assist by Gina Richard.
• The Seahawks scored again on the power-play 11 seconds into the third period with Esposito and McKenzie teaming up for the goal.
• A Salve Regina penalty put the Huskies on the power-play 20 seconds later and Eigner broke the shutout with her sixth goal of the season. The Huskies had three more power-plays in the period but could not get another shot past Hannafan.  

 
Inside The Stats:

• The teams combined for 11 penalties. Southern Maine went 1-for-6 on power-plays and the Seahawks went 2-for-5.
• Salve Regina had a 38-16 lead in shots on goal and 29-24 in faceoffs.
• Freshman Joely Power (Clarenville, Newfoundland/Mount Academy) went 8-for-11 on faceoffs to lead the Huskies.
• Thompson and junior Audrey Donahue (Timberlea, Nova Scotia/ Kimball Union Academy) each blocked two shots.
