No. 1 Hobart Blanks Southern Maine

GENEVA, N.Y. – Adam Mendelson scored twice for Hobart College Statesmen in an 8-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies on Saturday night. Shane Snell recorded a goal and two assists and Cooper Swift assisted on two goals. Tanner Daniels, Luke Aquaro and Austin Mourar each logged a goal and an assist. Mavrick Goyer made 15 saves to earn the shutout.

How It Happened:
  • The Statesmen had first period goals from Kahlil Fontana and Aquaro to go ahead 2-0 after the first 20 minutes of action. The goals came 1:03 apart.
  • The hosts scored three more times in the second with Dominic Schimizzi, Shell and Daniels accounting for the goals.
  • Mendelson scored both of his goals in the third period with a goal by Mourar sandwiched in between. Mourar's goal came on the power play while Mendelson's second score was a shorthanded goal.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Hobart put 58 shots on goal compared to Southern Maine's 16. Junior John Hagan (Canton, Mass./Tilton School) and senior Mathieu Sabourin (Alexandria, Ontario) each had three shots on goal for the Huskies.
  • Hobart went 1-for-2 with the extra man while the Huskies went 0-for-4.
  • Hobart had a 30-20 lead in faceoffs. Freshman Finn Ernsjöö (Stockholm, Sweden) led the Huskies with six draw wins.
