Huskies Fall to Salve Regina in Regular Season Finale

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Taylor Hannafan made 25 saves and held the University of Southern Maine off the scoreboard in a 2-0 win for the Salve Regina University Seahawks on Saturday afternoon. Jessica McPherson and Jennifer Drevitch had goals in the win.

Southern Maine: 11-12-2 (8-8-2 NEHC)
Salve Regina: 16-9-0 (14-4-0 NEHC)
 
Series History:
Southern Maine is now 17-12-3 against the Seahawks.
 
The Goaltenders:
Southern Maine: Haley McKim (8-21-2): 60:00, two goals allowed, 32 saves
Salve Regina: Taylor Hannafan (9-3-0): 60:00, zero goal allowed, 25 saves
 
How It Happened:
  • McKim made 16 saves in the opening period while only allowing one goal. McPherson's goal came 10:19 into the period with Grace Dumond recording the assist.
  • Drevitch scored 30 seconds into a power-play in the first minute of the second period to make the lead 2-0. Samantha McKenzie and Riley Esposito had the assists.
  • The Huskies put 12 shots on goal in the third period after having 13 in the first two periods. However, Hannafan held off the surge to complete the shutout. McKim made another 10 saves in the final period
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Each team had three power-plays
  • Salve Regina led 34-25 in shots on goal and 31-26 in faceoffs.
  • Senior Madelyn McLeish (Dedham, Mass.) played in her 100th career game for the Huskies.
  • Freshman Makenzie Woodford (Cornwall, Prince Edward Island/ Mount Academy) went 10-for-17 on faceoffs to lead the Huskies
  • Seniors Jess MacLean (Red Point, Nova Scotia) and Amelie St-Amant (Ottawa, Ontario/ Ontario Hockey Academy) each blocked two shots.
 
Up Next:
The Huskies finish the regular season with a record of 11-12-2 overall and 8-8-2 in NEHC play. They will be the No. 6 seed in the NEHC Tournament and have a rematch with the No. 3 seed Seahawks on Saturday, February 22 at 2:00 pm.
