No. 6 Huskies Fall to No. 3 Seahawks 2-0 in NEHC Quarterfinals

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The No. 3 seed Salve Regina University Seahawks defeated the No. 6 seed University of Southern Maine Huskies 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the New England Hockey Conference Championship Tournament. Ashtyn Bringardner recorded a goal and an assist while Taylor Hannafan made 17 saves in the shutout. Fifth-year senior Haley McKim (Moncton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) wrapped up her storied career with 31 saves in the loss. The game was the 100th of her career.

How It Happened:
  • The Seahawks led 11-4 in shots on goal in the first period, but the period ended with the score still tied at 0-0.
  • Bringardner scored 11 seconds into a power-play in the opening minute of the second period to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead. Sarah Bush provided the assist on the goal. Despite the goal, the teams were evenly matched statistically with each side putting eight shots on goal and Salve Regina holding a slight 8-7 lead in faceoff wins in the period.
  • Emily Wroblewski gave the Seahawks an insurance goal with 11:24 left in the third period. Reese Pereira and Bringardner recorded the assists.

  • Junior Sydnee Chaisson (Stratford, Prince Edward Island/Mount Academy) led the Huskies with four shots on goal.

Today's loss concludes the 2024-25 season for the Huskies and the program's time in the NEHC. The 2025-26 season will be the inaugural season for Little East Conference women's ice hockey.
