GORHAM, Maine – The Bowdoin College Polar Bears scored goals in all three periods on Tuesday night in a 3-1 non-conference win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's ice hockey team at the USM Ice Arena in Gorham. Sofia Nesvold, Luna Lu and Bea Palmer recorded the goals for Bowdoin, while freshman Anna Elizarkov (Boothbay Harbor, Maine/Lovell Academy) scored the first goal of her career for the Huskies.

Junior Maggie Jones (St. John's, Newfoundland/Mount Academy) made 32 saves in the loss. Bowdoin's Sarah Peterson earned the win and made 19 saves.

How It Happened:
  • The Huskies had back-to-back power plays in the second half of the first period but strong defense by Bowdoin limited them to just one shot on goal each time. The Polar Bears blocked four shots over the course of the two power plays. Nesvold made the score 1-0 Bowdoin with a shot from the point after she collected a pass from Kendrick Laprade. Bella Mele had the secondary assist.
  • Bowdoin doubled the lead 2:04 into the second period with a goal by Lu from Bella Schifano. The Huskies then cut the lead to 2-1 8:13 into the period when Elizarkov blasted the puck into the net following a Joely Power (Clarenville, Newfoundland/Mount Academy) faceoff win.
  • Bowdoin added some breathing room in the third period when Palmer scored with less than eight minutes left. The Huskies nearly added another goal in the final minute with the goalie pulled by the shot by freshman Charlotte Hughes (Mississauga, Ontario) hit the crossbar.

Inside The Stats:
  • Power went 10-1 on faceoffs to lead all players and helped the Huskies to a 28-24 lead in the category.
  • Senior Audrey Donahue (Timberlea, Nova Scotia/Kimball Union Academy) blocked five shots in the game to help the Huskies defense.
  • The Polar Bears led 35-20 in shots on goal.
  • Despite each team committing four penalties, no goals were scored on the power play as each team went 0-for-4.
