Southern Maine Shutouts Keene State 1-0

KEENE, N.H. – Fifth-year senior Jillian Jackson (Fredericton, New Brunswick/Ontario Hockey Academy) scored with 1:44 left in the first period and junior Maggie Jones (St. John's, Newfoundland/Mount Academy) made 25 to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's ice hockey team to a 1-0 win over the Keene State College Owls on Friday night in Keene. Jones now has three shutouts on the season.
 
Jackson's goal is her second goal of the season and her second game-winner. Three of the four goals in her Southern Maine career have been game-winners.

Series History:
Today's game was the first official game between the two programs. The teams met in an exhibition game on October 26, 2024 that saw the Owls win 6-3.
 
The Goaltenders:
Southern Maine: Maggie Jones (4-5-0): 60:00, no goals allowed, 25 saves
Keene State: Ai Chung (4-4-0): 58:41, one goal allowed, 43 saves
 
How It Happened:
  • After 18:16 of scoreless play, Jackson redirected in a shot by sophomore Sophia Capone (Cumberland, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey School) into the net for her second goal of the season. Graduate student Madison Chagnon (St. Albans, Vt./Rice Memorial) picked up the secondary assist.
  • Neither team scored in the second period as Chung made 12 saves and made seven. Keene had a power
  • Jones made another eight saves in the third period and Capone and freshman Gracelyn Koch (Maple Grove, New Brunswick) each blocked shots in the final two minute to help preserve the lead for the Huskies.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • The Huskies put 44 shots on goal while allowing just 25 by the Owls.
  • Keene State went 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Huskies were 0-for-1.
  • The Huskies had a slight 13-12 lead in blocked shots led by four by Capone and three by senior Audrey Donahue (Timberlea, Nova Scotia/Kimball Union Academy).
  • Jackson won 6-of-8 faceoffs that she took and the Huskies lead 21-13 in the category. Sophomore Joely Power (Clarenville, Newfoundland/Mount Academy) went a perfect 5-for-5.
 
Up Next:
The Huskies will play their final home game of the semester on Tuesday at 7:00 pm against Bowdoin in the USM Ice Arena.
