Donahue and Jackson Score as Huskies Blank Panthers 2-0

GORHAM, Maine – Senior Audrey Donahue (Timberlea, Nova Scotia/Kimball Union Academy) had a goal and an assist in the third period to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's ice hockey team to a 2-0 victory over the Plymouth State University Panthers on Saturday evening. Junior goalie Maggie Jones (St. John's, Newfoundland/Mount Academy) had her second shutout of the season with 16 saves. Fifth-year senior Jillian Jackson (Fredericton, New Brunswick/Ontario Hockey Academy) also scored for Southern Maine.
 
Junior Greta Grant (Brownfield,Maine/Fryeburg Academy) and freshman Anna Elizarkov (Boothbay Harbor, Maine/Lovell Academy) recorded assists for the Huskies. The assist for Elizarkov is the first point of her career.

Series History:
Today's game was the 36th meeting between the Panthers and Huskies. The Huskies lead the series 27-8-1 and have won the last nine games.
 
The Goaltenders:
Plymouth State: Jorja Moore (0-2-0): 59:03, two goals allowed, 31 saves
Southern Maine: Maggie Jones (3-4-0): 60:00, zero goals allowed, 16 saves
 
How It Happened:
  • After two scoreless periods, Jackson netted her first goal of the season to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Jackson took a pass from Grant off the board and fired a shot to beat Moore high.
  • Southern Maine extended the lead to 2-0 when Elizarkov connected with Donahue on breakaway during a line change. Donahue then beat Jones for her second goal of the year.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • The Huskies had a 33-16 advantage in shots on goal and 25-21 advantage in faceoff wins. Jackson went 8-for-11 on faceoffs to lead the team. Senior Olivia Stewart (Fredericton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) also won eight draws.
  • The Panthers blocked 19 shots, while the Huskies blocked 13. Grant, Donahue and senior Caroline Thompson (Crapaud, Prince Edward Island/Mount Academy) each blocked three for the Huskies.
  • Southern Maine went 0-2 on the power play and Plymouth State was 0-for-1. All three penalties occurred in the first period.
