Norwich Defeats Southern Maine 5-0

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Livia Brooks recorded three points on a goal and two assists for the Norwich University Cadets on Friday evening in a 5-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's ice hockey team. Norwich also had two goals from Jordan Brady and two assists from Olivia Boyer. Payton Sutherland stopped all nine shots that she faced to pick up the win, while junior goalie Maggie Jones (St. John's, Newfoundland/Mount Academy) made a career-high 46 saves for the Huskies.
 
Freshman Gracelyn Koch (Maple Grove, New Brunswick) and junior Shannon Murphy (Pembroke, Mass./Brewster Academy) each registered two shots on goal to lead Southern Maine.

How It Happened:
  • Jones stopped the first seven shots that she faced before Brady was able to get a shot past her to put Norwich ahead 1-0 8:34 into the period. Boyer and Brooks recorded the assists on the score. Jones finished the period with 13 saves.
  • Norwich extended the lead to 3-0 in the second period with a goal from Alex Leslie and another by Brady with Brooks and Boyer assisting once again.
  • Brooks and Natalie Heutmaker added goals in the third period for the 5-0 final. Leslie added an assist on the final goal by Heutmaker for her second point of the game.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Norwich had a 51-9 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Huskies blocked 12 shots in the game, their second-highest total of the season. Senior captain Audrey Donahue (Timberlea, Nova Scotia/Kimball Union Academy) accounted for four of those blocks.
  • Southern Maine went 0-for-2 on the power play and Norwich was 0-for-1.
