GORHAM, Maine  - Four different players scored a goal and the third-seed University of Southern Maine Huskies overcame a first-half deficit to defeat the sixth-seed UMass Boston Beacons 4-2 in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 Little East Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament Saturday evening at Hannaford Field.
 
Seniors Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine/Erskine Academy) and Kadynne Smith (Biddeford, Maine), and sophomores Meghan Przybilla (St. Anthony, Minn.) and Madi Sainis (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Saint Thomas) each scored for the Huskies who avenged a regular-season loss to the Beacons.

Tonight's game marked the 33rd meeting between the UMass Boston Beacons and the University of Southern Maine Huskies. Southern Maine leads the overall series 18-14-1. UMass Boston won the regular season contest in Boston 4-1. USM is 4-1-1 against the Beacons in its last six meetings.
 
How It Happened:

• Despite the Huskies controlling possession and pace of play, UMass Boston took the 1-0 lead in the 25^th minute when Sofia Schallmo's bid skipped on the turf and found the far post for the score.  Schallmo's goal marked the 13^th of the season for the sophomore forward who is tied with Przybilla for the conference-lead.
• Southern Maine found the equalizer quickly when Smith banged in her third goal of the season. Smith was presented with the opportunity after senior Cierra Hill (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke Academy) headed on the ball into the box.
• Przybilla gave the Huskies a 2-1 lead minutes later in the 29^th, knocking in her team-leading 13^th goal of the season off. Przybilla received a well-placed service from senior back Devan Sherry (Gorham, Maine) after foul from the Beacons. 
• Reitchel made it 3-1 before the half, scoring in the 42^nd minute, receiving a pass from sophomore Makyla Magid (Golden, Colo./Lakewood) and finishing to the far post.
• UMass Boston pressured early in the second half and dominated possession in the Huskies' defensive third before finding its second goal of the game in the 53^rd minute.  Lorelai Leddy notched her second goal of the season with a shot to the left of the frame following an outstanding effort from Alexis Williamson in the box.
• Holding a one goal lead, USM looked for a cushion but was thwarted by an outstanding goalkeeping effort from Janiya Matier.  Matier finished the game with 14 saves, including several diving stops. 
• Southern Maine got its fourth goal in the 78^th minute when Sainis was tacked hard in the box and awarded a penalty kick. Sainis converted to the right past the outstretched save attempt from Matier.

 
Inside the State:  

• Reitchel now has nine goals on the season.  She has nine goals and six assists for 24 points in 2025, and 31 goals, 22 assists and 84 points in her 76-game career. Reitchel is now fourth in career games played, and is tied for third in career goals (31).  Her 22 assists are second all time, while her 84 career points are third all-time.

 

• Przybilla has 13 goals and eight assists for 34 points this season. She is tied for the conference lead in goals scored in 2025.  Her 13 goals are tied for fifth in single-season records, while her eight assists are fourth.  Her 34 points are tied for third in single-season points. Przybilla has 18 goals and 15 assists in 42 career games for 51 points.
