GORHAM, Maine  -  Junior Jack Brady (Jensen Beach, Fla.) scored in the 16th minute and sophomore Gabe Wagner (Freeport, Maine) made five saves in the shutout to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 1-0 win over the Keene State College Owls in a Little East Conference men's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

Southern Maine (2-2-6, 1-0-2 LEC)

Today marked the 63rd meeting between the Keene State College Owls and the University of Southern Maine Huskies.  Keene State leads the overall series 38-18-8.  Southern Maine took the 2024 match on the road, 1-0, and has now won the last two consecutively.

How It Happened:
  • Despite Keene State registering the first two shots of the game early in the opening half, Southern Maine took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute as Brady used a strong individual effort down the right side of the field, cutting inside the box and slotting the ball home to the nearside.
  • Up 1-0, Wagner and the Huskies' defense made the score stand through the half. A pair of Owls' shots were blocked in the 24th minute, while Wagner made a stop early in the contest.
  • Keene State pressed for the equalizer in the second half with Cristian Correa putting a strong effort on frame in the 58th, and a header from Javier Perez glancing wide in the 62nd. Tommaso Brivio had a pair of attempts late in the contest, including a one-time volley out of the air in the 89th that went high of the cross bar. However, Wagner and the Huskies kept KSC off the board.
  • USM nearly finished the game up 2-0 as sophomore Martin Kelly (Portland, Maine) broke free late but his effort was just wide of the net to the left side.
