GORHAM, Maine - Emma Sanson converted a third period penalty shot, and Grace Barlage added a second goal as the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors took a 2-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in Little East Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

Today's game marked the 29
th meeting between the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors and the University of Southern Maine Huskies. Southern Maine leads the overall series 23-7. Eastern Connecticut took the 2024 regular season game over the Huskies, 4-1, snapping a two-game skid to Southern Maine. The Huskies earned a 1-0 win over the Warriors in the 2024 LEC Quarterfinals. Southern Maine defeated ECSU 3-1 in 2022, and 3-0 in 2023. The Warriors earned a 3-2 double overtime win in 2021.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Despite outshooting the Warriors 8-2 in the opening half, Southern Maine found itself locked in a scoreless draw at the halftime break.
- The Warriors finally broke through in the third, earning a penalty shot in in the 38th minute. Sanson converted for ECSU knocking her shot to the left side of the cage for the 1-0 lead.
- Barlage doubled the Warrior lead midway through the fourth quarter, netting her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 55th minute.
- Southern Maine responded on the restart, scoring just 23 second after Barlage's goal to cut its deficit to 2-1. Niles scored her third goal of the week for the marker after an assist from junior Dylan Barr (Phippsburg, Maine/Morse).
- The Huskies continued to press for an equalizer, but ECSU played strong defense to keep the victory in hand.
