UMass Boston Takes Down Southern Maine 4-1

Cierra Hill Scores For Southern Maine

BOSTON  –  Sofia Schallmo scored a hat trick to lead the UMass Boston Beacons to a 4-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference women's soccer game Wednesday night at James Cotter Field.
 
Southern Maine outshot the Beacons 21-13 in the contest, but UMass Boston keeper Janiya Matier was able to make 10 saves to keep her team ahead in the contest.

Tonight's game marked the 32nd meeting between the UMass Boston Beacons and the University of Southern Maine Huskies. Southern Maine leads the overall series 17-14-1. Prior to tonight's loss the Huskies were 3-0-1 against the Beacons in their last four contest, having last lost to UMB 4-0 in 2021.  
 
How It Happened:
  • Schalmo scored twice in the opening half as UMB led 3-0 at the break. Schalmo scored her first goal in the ninth minute and then put the Beacons up 2-0 in the 39th. Lorelai Leddy made it 3-0 in the 41st converting an assist from Schalmo.
  • The Beacons made it 4-0 early in the second half as Schalmo completed the hat trick in the 47th.
  • The Huskies' Cierra Hill (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke Academy) broke through for a goal in the 66th.  Hill's second goal of the season came off of an assist from senior Bridgette Toland (Jamestown, RI/North Kingstown).
