2025 LEC Women’s Tennis Tournament: No. 3 UMass Boston Defeats No. 6 Southern Maine 4-0

WEYMOUTH, Mass. – The No. 3 seed UMass Boston Beacons defeated the No. 6 seed University of Southern Maine Huskies 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Little East Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament. The Huskies finish the season with a record of 4-9, the team's most wins since 2018. This was also the team's first tournament appearance since 2018.
 
The Beacons earned the doubles point by taking two of the three matches. UMass Boston's No. 3 doubles team of Maya Rubenstein and Karina Khalsa won 6-0 over the Huskies' team of senior Muriel Lattin (Litchfield, Maine/Winthrop) and freshman Alexis Hayward (Acton, Maine/Sanford). The No. 2 doubles team of Zainab Patel and Shreya Saravana Rakshana from UMass Boston defeated the USM pair of freshman Payton Thibodeau (Gorham, Maine) and fifth-year senior Hanni Johnson (Livermore, Maine/Spruce Mountain) 6-2 to clinch the doubles point for the Beacons.
 
The No. 1 doubles match went unfinished as the Beacons clinched the point. The Huskies' top pair of senior Abby Emerson (Gorham, Maine) and sophomore Alyssa Conley (Windham, Maine) was ahead 5-3 at the time of the stoppage.
 
The Beacons clinched the match with three wins in the singles portion of the match. Rubenstein defeated Lattin 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles while Saravana Rakshana won 6-0, 6-4 against Johnson at No. 4 singles. A 6-2, 6-4 win by Patel over Emerson at No. 1 singles then ended the match and sent UMass Boston to the next round of the tournament. The remaining singles matches went unfinished by rule one the Beacons secure the match win. Thibodeau was leading her No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-5 at the time of the stoppage.
 
Conley finished the season as the team's leader in singles wins with a 9-3 record and a 7-1 mark in conference action. Lattin and Thibodeau each won six singles matches this season to tie for second on the team. The doubles pair of Emerson and Conley finished the year with a 7-1 record.
