Colby College Pulls Away From Southern Maine 5-2


WATERVILLE, Maine    –  Five different players scored as the Colby College Mules rallied from an early deficit to defeat the University of Southern Maine Huskies 5-2 in a non-conference field hockey game Sunday afternoon in Waterville.

Tonight's game marked the 47th meeting between Southern Maine and Colby College. Colby leads the series 25-20-2.  USM resumed the series with the Mules in 2024 after not having played since the 2017 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Freshman Mackenzie Hall (Westbrook, Maine) put the Huskies up early in the seventh minute, and sophomore Leah Thibodeau (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) gave USM a 2-1 lead in the ninth before Colby rattled off four unanswered goals for the win.
  • Bridget Everett scored at the 19-minute mark to bring Colby event before Ella Brockelman made it 3-2 for the eventual game-winner in the 34th.
  • Bridget Waters and Christina Sweeney scored in the 41st and 48th minute respectively for the 5-2 final.
 
 
INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Colby led USM in shots 25-6.  Husky starting goalkeeper Eleanor Folsom (Winthrop, Maine) made nine saves, while sophomore Jayla Gentry (Norridgewock, ME/Skowhegan Area) had a defensive save.
 
UP NEXT:
Southern Maine hosts Thomas College on Wednesday, October 15 (7:00 pm) in its next contest. The Huskies are then on the road at VTSU-Castleton on Saturday, October 18 (5:00 pm) in Little East Conference action before hosting New England College on Tuesday, October 21 (7:00 pm) in a non-conference match-up
