242 University of Southern Maine Student-Athlete Earn Little East Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll Recognition

Husky student-athletes from each of the 19 Little East Conference championship sports sponsored by the University of Southern Maine are Represented

GORHAM, Maine –  Two hundred forty-two of the approximately 450 University of Southern Maine student-athletes were announced as part of the Little East Conference Academic Honor Roll for the 2024 Fall semester.  The conference office listed a total of 2281 student-athletes competing in the conference's 21 championship sports from the full and associate Little East Conference member institutions as recipients of this academic distinction.
 
To be named to the LEC Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a semester GPA of 3.00 or better and have been an active member of the team at the conclusion of the season. The LEC Academic Honor Roll debuted in 2020. The Little East Conference also awards All-Academic team honors during each playing season (fall, winter & spring with a different criteria).
 
Husky student-athletes from each of the 19 Little East Conference championship sports sponsored by the University of Southern Maine (Huskies' Athletics does not sponsor men's and women's swimming & diving) were represented on the list.  
 
One hundred thirty-nine of the Huskies' honored are members of the University of Southern Maine's 10 women's team competing in the Little East Conference, while 103 student-athletes were recognized from the nine men's teams.  Broken down by sport, Southern Maine student-athletes achieving a 3.00 or better grade point average or better: women's soccer (30), women's indoor and outdoor track & field (28), men's indoor and outdoor track & field (27), baseball (24), field hockey (23), softball (22), women's lacrosse (20), men's lacrosse (16), men's soccer (15), women's basketball (11), men's basketball (10), women's volleyball (10), men's golf (8), men's cross country (7), women's cross country (6), women's tennis (5), and men's tennis (5), Of note, with several multi-sport student-athletes competing in the Little East Conference, there is overlap among teams resulting in 267 roster spots earning a 3.0 or higher GPA.
 
At the completion of the fall 2024 academic semester, Husky student-athletes continued live out the Division III philosophy combining for a strong 3.196 grade point average.  Of the 23 Husky teams, 18 programs combined for a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Huskies' softball leads the way as the women's team with the highest team GPA of 3.64 while the men's cross country (3.522) has the best GPA for men's programs. Huskies' women's soccer (3.578) and women's ice hockey (3.524) (women's ice hockey is not an LEC sport)  join the previously mentioned programs with a team GPA above 3.5.
 
With academic majors ranging from Business Management, Mechanical Engineering, Art Education, Nursing, History, Biochemistry, Finance and more, 41 University of Southern Maine student-athlete earned a remarkable 4.0 grade point average during the fall semester. 
 
The University of Southern Maine will host its 36th Annual William B. Wise Scholar Athlete ceremony on February 23.  A record 260 student-athletes will be honored as Wise Scholar-Athletes at the department's annual ceremony highlighting students maintaining a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average during the previous academic year.
