Norwich Edges Southern Maine 1-0

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Taylor Girouard scored the only goal of the game for the Norwich University Cadets in 1 -0 New England Hockey Conference win against the University of Southern Maine Huskies. Fifth-year senior Haley McKim (Moncton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) made 37 saves in goal for the Huskies. Madison Brunet earned the win for Norwich and made 14 saves.

Southern Maine: 8-6-2 (5-4-2 NEHC)
Norwich: 10-7-0 (7-1-0 NEHC)
 
Series History:
Norwich and Southern Maine have now played 40 times with the Cadets holding a 35-2-3 record in the series.

Southern Maine: Haley McKim (6-8-2): 60:00, one goal allowed, 37 saves

How It Happened:
  • Girouard scored on a breakaway 1:50 into the second period after a scoreless first period. Lauren Tuzik and Neris Archambault assisted on the goal. McKim then stopped the next 11 shots she faced in the period.
  • McKim made another 17 saves in the third period as the Cadets held strong for the 1-0 final.

  • The Huskies were 0-for-3 on the power play and the Vikings went 0-for-2.
  • Norwich led 38-14 in shots on goal and 45-for-54 on faceoffs.
  • Senior Jess MacLean (Red Point, Nova Scotia) led the Huskies with four shots on goal followed by senior Ally Stymiest (Moncton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) with three.
