Clark Defeats Southern Maine 3-0

GORHAM, Maine – The Clark University Cougars defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women's volleyball contest three sets to none on Wednesday evening in Gorham's Hill Gym. Clark's Victoria Pastor tallied a game-leading 13.5 points from eight kills, five aces and a block assist. Freshman Ella Koehler (Pickerington, Ohio/Fairfield Christian Academy) and junior Drew Johnson (Pismo Beach, Cali. /Brewer) each had eight kills for the Huskies.

Series History:
The Cougars and Huskies have now played three times with Clark leading the series 3-0. The two teams first faced off in 1982 with Clark winning 2-0. The second match between the teams occurred 41 years later, a 3-0 win by the Cougars, on September 12, 2023.
 
How It Happened:
  • Clark got out to an early lead by scoring the first three points of the game, but the Huskies chipped away at the lead and tied the score at 9-9. However, the Cougars pulled away with a five-point run and went on to take the first set 25-18.
  • The two teams traded 3-0 runs to start the second set and the teams looked evenly matched before Clark rallied to win the set 25-12.
  • The third set ended 25-17 to give Clark the sweep.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Sofia Scherrer del Llano recorded nine kills to lead all players. Koehler, Johnson and Pastor tied for second with eight apiece.
  • Pastor and Yumeng Liu both reached double figures in digs for Clark with 13 and 12. Freshman Macie Ahmer (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) had the most for the Huskies with eight. Ahmer had a game-high 17 assists followed closely by Yvanna Torres with 16.
  • Clark led 12-3 in aces and 7-2 in blocks.
 
Up Next:
The Huskies will host Curry College (12:00 pm) and Colby-Sawyer College (4:00 pm) on Saturday in a home tri-match.
